Professor Louise Allan moved to the University of Exeter as Professor of Geriatric Medicine in June 2018. She has a specialist interest in the Neurology and Psychiatry of Old Age and is a member of the Centre for Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH), which is a joint venture between the School of Psychology, the University of Exeter Medical School and PenCLAHRC.

Current research themes focus on falls and physical health care in dementia, the effects of delirium upon cognitive decline, and non-Alzheimer’s dementias including post-stroke dementia and Lewy body disease.

Louise completed undergraduate studies at Oxford University and then did house jobs in Oxford and Whitehaven, after which she moved to Newcastle to complete higher medical training as a Geriatrician. She had an Alzheimer’s Society Fellowship for the completion of her doctoral studies on autonomic dysfunction in dementia and then she became a lecturer at Newcastle University (2007-2008) and subsequently a senior lecturer (2008-2018). Clinically, Louise will be working as a Geriatrician in the memory clinic at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
