Work Package 1b – Theory driven mixed methods study
Led by Professor Reeve and Dr Hilton
What helps or hinders tailored sleep management?
Help for sleep management needs to be tailored. This means that doctors, patients, and carers, should work together to find the best solution for person-centred care.
We want to know what helps or hinders tailored sleep management?
How will we do this?
1. We will observe consultations between GP’s and their patients. This is also known as ethnographic work. This will help us to understand if and how healthcare practitioners currently manage care that is tailored to an individual’s needs.
2. We will also hold focus group sessions with individuals living with dementia and MCI, their carers, and healthcare professionals. This will help us explore in-depth barriers and enablers to tailored care.
3. Finally, we will send out a nationwide survey to healthcare practitioners to gain their opinions on a tailored sleep tool for individuals with dementia or MCI.
Successful outcomes
We will use our findings to describe if and how the components described in our programme theory are, or could be, delivered in practice; identify any missing elements.
